Changing team photos before releasing orders | Photography and Capture

Does anyone do proof ordering for sports, and also build teams? We'd like to start doing proof-order only (we've previously offered preorder), but it takes about a week to get the built teams approved by the school. We are hoping to sell the day after photos are taken, and have a place-holder "Team Photo Coming soon," for items like Memory Mates. Unfortunately in testing we've discovered that changing a team photo reverts all orders to the primary photo of the athlete, rather than a photo selected by a parent when they place their order. Would appreciate any suggestions or work arounds to add an approved team photo in the midst of taking orders!
